Imogene (Jean) Holsey Hartman, was born on February 4, 1929 in Anadarko, Oklahoma to William Monroe Holsey and Pearl Belle Kelley Holsey. She was the oldest of five children born to the Holsey’s who also included Ann, Bob, John and Nancy. Growing up, most of Jean’s life was lived in the Oklahoma City area. At the age of 13 she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and was baptized at Trinity Baptist Church, OKC.
Those who knew Jean Holsey saw a beautiful, confident, assertive and bright young woman. She attended the University of Oklahoma in Norman for two years. In July, 1947 on a blind double date she met Lee Hartman. They fell deeply in love with each other and were married one year later. Jean and Lee were married for over 68 years.
Together they had three children, Linda, Janie and Mark. Jean was a fantastic cook and an amazing mom. She could literally grow anything from flowers to vegetables to trees.
Most of all, Jean was a committed Christian. She was also a devoted pastor’s wife and Bible study teacher.
Upon retirement, Jean and Lee moved to Hot Springs Village thirty years ago and are charter members of Balboa Baptist Church in the Village.
On Friday, March 3, 2017 Jean went to be with the Lord joining her beloved husband, Lee, who passed away last September.
Jean is survived by her three children: Linda Lee Laginja and husband Tom (HSV), Janie Susan Smith and husband Marty (HSV), Mark Stephen Hartman and wife Kathy (Sugar Land, Texas), her four grandchildren: Bethany, Christopher, Matthew and Jonathan and her great grandchildren: Jude, Emily, Adrien, Benjamin, Jack Mark and Levi. She is also survived by her two sisters Ann Kirk (Choctaw, Oklahoma) and Nancy Morell (New Port Richey, Florida).
Jean and Lee began a Christian legacy for their family that continues into the fourth generation and beyond. Their family is indeed, the greatest accomplishment and heritage of their lives and brought to them their greatest joy.
